Satsumon - 1983-1990
These images are from a number of sites dating to between A.D. 700 and 1000. A large number of Satsumon period houses have been excavated on the Hokjkaido University campus. The Sakushu-Kotoni-Gawa or Sakushu-Kotoni River site is particularly important because of the wealth of charred remains recovered by flotation. Part of the site is water-logged and a fish wier was adjacent to the village, in a buried river channel. The site was excavated prior to the construction of a student dormitory.
