Smoke/Ice House - 1973
A decaying, small, stone and wood structure stood to the side of the front of the house within easy reach of the summer kitchen. The floor was stratified earth and ash with small artifacts intermixed. Many of the artifacts appear to be toys or children’s items. Before we could finish the work, the deconstruction crew demolished the house. This was the most trying excavation of my career to say the least.
